
Sparsholt new boy Dave Banks blasted six ‘maximums’ in an unbeaten 108 as the Winchester side put an opening day defeat by Tichborne Park firmly behind them with an 87-run win over newly promoted South Wilts II.
The former Totton & Eling and Sarisbury Athletic skipper celebrated his sixth SPL hundred as Sparsholt built a powerful 288-4 before South Wilts made 201-9 in reply.
Banks, pictured left, got his runs after openers Richard Kenway (66) and Stuart Tognarelli (36) had made runs themselves.
He enjoyed fifty-plus stands with both Kenway and Tom Foster (22), and later Jeremy Frith, who clouted three sixes and three fours of his own in an aggressive 49 not out.
It was a tall order for the young South Wilts side, which fell to 102-5 (Tom Cowley 32) before skipper Tom Pearce hit 49 to ease them to a fourth batting bonus point at 201-9 (Dave Gough 3-29).
Tam Goodrich, who joined Calmore Sports from Wiltshire club Corsham, was caught out one short of a century at Hartley Wintney, where the visitors won by 115 runs.
