PREMIER 2: WOOD CHOP WEAKENS NEW LEADERS

1/8/2015

Table toppers Old Tauntonians & Romsey will be without Hampshire’s Chris Wood when they entertain in-form Bashley (Rydal) II at the Romsey Sports Centre.
Wood is involved in Hampshire’s Royal London Cup tie against Middlesex at the Ageas Bowl.
Ten points behind, Portsmouth can ease any potential promotion jitters with a trip to bottom club Langley Manor.    The St Helen’s side have led the way in SPL2  for much of the campaign and still look likely to seal a return to Division 1, even though they have been knocked off the top spot.
But successive defeats to leaders OTs & Romsey and fast-finishing Fawley have raised a few questions on whether Portsmouth have run out of steam at a vital time.
Skipper Dave Henderson said: ‘Our next two games are against the bottom two clubs, and if we play sensible cricket we should win them.  We need to win two games from our last four to get promoted.  It would be hard to take if we didn’t do it now.’
Elsewhere, Hambledon’s recent revival came to a halt against OTs & Romsey last weekend but they could do Portsmouth a favour if they can grab a win on the road at Fawley, who pulled of that superb Wayne Royan inspired win at Southsea last weekend.
Paultons bid to end a run of five straight defeats, but visitors Hursley Park kick started a potential survival bid by beating Langley Manor in their last outing.  Sparsholt, the other side deep in trouble, host Tichborne Park.
Sparsholt: Worth, Ruffell, Tognarelli, Haworth,Foster, Dunford, Viljoen, M Doubell N, Doubell, Vokes , Ballands.
