PREMIER 3: RYDE GET TICKET TO MOVE OFF BOTTOM

8/7/2016

Hursley Park are back at the Southern Premier League Division 3 basement after heavy rain washed away a potential victory over fellow strugglers Havant seconds at Havant Park.
Nick Wheeler’s side had posted 180 and had Havant wobbling at 40-2 when the match was abandoned.
To add to Hursley’s disappointment, newly promoted Ryde won by six wickets at Gosport Borough to achieve their debut win in the SPL.
Zimbabwean Boswell Chapungu (51) and Tom Flynn (37 not out) led Hursley to 180 before the rains came at Havant.
There were no weather interruptions at Privett Park, where buoyant Ryde reduced Gosport to 56-7 before bowling their hosts out for 107.
Four-wicket pair Josh Procter (4-28) and skipper Stuart Robertson (4-17) did the damage as New Zealander Mike Ruffell (61) fought a lone battle to keep the island bowlers at bay.
After losing two cheap wickets and then Josh Procter (18) at 43, Ryde took care in chasing down the modest target, none more so than Ben Wadmore, whose patient 34 not out, aided by Sam Rockley (22), proved a match winner.
Waterlooville scrambled a one wicket win over St Cross Symondians II, whose 123 all out was trimmed back to 91 by a rain interruption.  Ville’s last pair got them across the line – just !
The other two SPL3 matches at Langley Manor and Fair Oak were abandoned.  The Manor were 60-3 against Basingstoke II and Oaks 48-1 hosting Lymington II.
