Trojans have trimmed Waterlooville’s lead at the top of Southern Electric Premier Division 3 to 11 points.
While Ed Pope was masterminding Trojans comfortable seven-wicket win over Totton & Eling II, Ville tied their home game with bottom-of-the-log Alton II.
It looked a formality when Sam Hillman, pictured left, (3-17) and Jon Hudson (3-24) reduced Alton to 22-5.
But Dave Evans (51) and Richard Anthony (40) hit back and got Alton a competitive 150.
Tim Jackson (27) and James Scutt (20) got Ville away to a half-century start, but Steve Ball (3-40) and Tom Paul (3-21) caused wickets to fall with alarming regularity.
Last man Andy Reynolds hit a two to level the scores, but was trapped leg before next ball with the scores 150 each.
Pope’s unbeaten 60 was his best score in SPL cricket but he, alongside Chris Warne (36) ensure a maximum point return as Trojans chased down 153.
Two youngsters caught the eye in the afternoon session – Jack Mellett’s 28 for the Eels and a best so far 4-19 return for Trojans’ Jordan Wright.
Third placed South Wilts strangled Basingstoke & North Hants by spin after posting 266-8 at May’s Bounty.
A half-century by young Ben Draper (58), complemented by the Pittman brothers Rob (49) and Sam (41), and Tom Pearce’s timely 35 eased South Wilts to 266-8 against an experienced Basingstoke attack.
When Richard Vinn (43) and Andy Giles (77) took Basingstoke’s response into treble figures, South Wilts might have had cause for alarm.
But the Bountymen were undone by spin – Pearce (4-35) and Paul Draper (3-43) cutting through to reduce the hosts to 232 all out.
James Brooke and Rhondri Adamson launched a boundary-strewn attack of the Lymington II attack to set up a three-wicket win for St Cross Symondians II at the Green Jackets.
At 117-5 chasing Lymington’s 207 (Guy Layman 44), prospects didn’t appear that bright.
Three wickets each by Keiran Moors and Olly Kelly did the damage.
But Brooke lashed three sixes and ten fours in a swashbuckling 75, while Adamson belted five maximums and another five fours in an equally destructive 55.
The pair got St Cross home with 17 overs to spare !
Lee Harrop (91) and Simon Creal (70) batted Gosport Borough into an invincible position – their 268-7 proving too many for Havant, who were dismissed for 168 (Andrew Galliers 36).
