Trojans are back on top of Southern Electric Premier Division 3 – courtesy of South Wilts seconds, who ended Waterlooville’s winning start.
While the Ville were stumbling to a six-wicket defeat, Trojans chased down Lymington’s 270-9 to win by two wickets.
But it’s tight at the top with only seven points separating the leading three sides.
Trojans got in with a over to spare in their Stoneham Lane run chase – Joel Sutherland’s 97 having set a stiff target.
Abdul Manjra thumped a quick fire 40 to give Trojans lift off – a perfect start Ed Boyd (55) and Dan Babidge (24) maintained.
James Truscott (24) and Nigel le Bas (44) kept the pot boiling and with Lymington tossing in 39 wides for good measure, Trojans got in with two wickets and six balls to spare.
Waterlooville’s first loss enabled Trojans to regain top place – South Wilts II captain Tom Pearce celebrating a maiden five-wicket haul in the process.
Left-armer Pearce (5-25) and Jack Mynott (3-29) did the damage as the Ville tumbled from a comfortable 133-3 (Sam Williams 67). They lost seven wickets for 31 runs in sinking to 164 all out.
Back from his university studies at Loughborough, Jack Mynott underpinned the South Wilts run chase, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 61.
He shared a half-century start with Sam Pittman (22) and, although Den Draper went cheaply, enjoyed another stand with Rob Pittman, who plundered a six and ten fours in a brisk 47.
The two other SPL3 matches produced a welter of runs, with Basingstoke & North Hants piling up 292-7 before bowling visiting Gosport Borough out for 259.
Mul Rizwan (59) and Richard Vinn (37) provided a century platform, which Jamie Skeoch (8), Brad Neal (38) and Keith Harsham (32) cashed in on.
Australian Blake Maher hit seven sixes and 12 fours in an unbeaten 142 – only to share a losing Gosport dressing room.
James Taylor couldn’t have done much more than take 7-38 and score 77, but he too finished on the losing side as Totton & Eling II went down by 20 runs to St Cross Symondians II at Southern Gardens.
Alan Whitman hit an unbeaten 82 for St Cross, who posted 240-8, with Fergus Haycock (38) and Paul Hawkins (31) in support.
Alton II’s scheduled match with Havant II at the Jubilee was surprisingly called off after an early morning inspection. There had been overnight rain.
