Trojans remain unbeaten and one point ahead of Waterlooville at the top of Southern Electric Premier Division three after a four-run win over Basingstoke & North Hants II – their closest call yet. The pair are well clear at the top with third placed South Wilts II 23 points behind.
Trojans lost the in-form Simon Williams cheaply, but Ed Boyd (31) and Dan Babidge (30) steadied the ship. Basingstoke, struggling second from bottom with only one win, had their Stoneham hosts in some difficulty at 118-5. But Jamie Donaldson (44) and teenager Jordan Wright (27) produced a key stand that enabled Trojans to set a competitive 208-run target.
Donaldson bowled magnificently with the new ball, removing both Basingstoke openers in a ten-over spell in which he conceded a meagre six runs. At 119-6 Basingstoke looked out for the count, but young Max Harsham (37) and Rakitha Perera (42) fought back. Hampshire Seniors all-rounder Keith Harsham’s unbeaten 37 kept the pot boiling, but three wickets each by Faisal Rahim (3-44) and Abdul Manjra (3-52) ensured the visitors fell four runs short at 204-9.
Alex Shephard hit 116 as Waterlooville’s 294-5 proved too many for Havant, despite a gallant effort by the visitors who replied with 248-9. Australian Sam Williams made 78.
Lee Harrop (87) led a 310-run romp by Gosport Borough at Southern Gardens, where Totton & Eling’s 253-8 response included a defiant 79 from James Taylor.
Rob Pittman (72) and Will Wade (70) led the way as South Wilts II – who host Trojans on Saturday – piled up 298-8 before having St Cross Symondians II 66-6 after a three-wicket strike by Dom Ducellier (3-24). Half-centuries by Lewis Mitchard and Alan Whitman at least got St Cross some bonus points at an eventual 236-9.
Alton II lie bottom of the table after a fourth defeat in five inflicted by eight-wicket winners Lymington II. Martin Gregory (4-31) and Guy Layman (3-13) whipped Alton out for 108.
