Can Burridge be the Leicester City of local Southern Premier Division cricket ?
Just like the Foxes in 2015, they fought a successful battle against relegation from the Premiership, ultimately sending local arch rivals Sarisbury Athletic down.
And just like Leicester City, they’re off this time with a bang, celebrating back-to-back victories over the Hampshire Academy and Alton.
Admittedly, they aren’t the strongest of sides – but Burridge have 40 points on the board after two wins – and that’s one quarter of the tally they got all last season !
Burridge took charge from the start against Alton, with Dan Hewitt (57) and Will Steward (30) sharing a 64-run start, which former Hampshire all-rounder Lee Savident (63) and Rick Ankers (36 off 21 balls).
They lost six wickets for 85 runs in the final ten overs reaching a formidable 291-9.
Nick McMurray (3-15) then blew Alton’s top order apart – his hostile new-ball spell having the visitors reeling at 39-4, three batsmen caught behind.
A century fifth-wicket stand between Scott Myers (55) and Mark Heffernan (46) at least enabled Alton to get a handful of bonus points on board. They closed 177-7.
