STING IN THE TAIL FOR UMPIRING SUPREMO

There was a string in the tail for Premier League umpiring supremo Denis Emery when he pitched up to officiate the potential Division 1 promotion decider between Hook & Newnham Basics and New Milton on August 22 2015.  Emery, 65, pictured, encountered a problem or two with the locals wasps and there was a clear buzz in the middle as he was stung several times. As Hook battled against defeat, they sent in reinforcements - billions of flying ants swarmed around the field, eventually pitching on the square and all too close to comfort for Emery, who had to be sprayed with repellent at one stage.
* Cricketers throughout the region send their best wishes to Denis, who  is now recovering after an unpleasant postseason illness, not caused (we believe) by wasps stings.
