Trojans hockey star Toby Edwards, pictured, came to New Milton’s rescue for the second time in three matches – just as Andover looked set to derail the Green & Gold’s Southern Electric Premier Division 1 title hopes.
Milton were reeling at 104-7 in response to Andover’s 188-9 (Will Arnold 57) when Edwards was joined by spin all-rounder Nick Elliott for an unbroken eighth wicket stand which turned the match on its head.
Edwards, whose 84 in similar trying circumstances won last month’s match at Liphook, hit an unbeaten 69 and shared an unbroken 86-run stand with Elliott (26) as New Milton got home by three wickets.
Seven points behind but with New Milton to play at the KGV on Saturday week, Hook & Newnham Basics handed out a seven-wicket thrashing to Basingstoke & North Hants.
Spencer Champ routed Basingstoke’s top order with a spell of four wickets for six runs – a ten over stint that led to the Bountymen being skittled for 104. Hook romped home, with Jordan Hobday hitting 46 not out.
Teenage New Zealander Josh Finnie stole the show as Bournemouth defeated travel worn Rowledge by 86 runs at Chapel Gate.
Rowledge got the run around in the field after an arduous journey from the Surrey county border, with Finnine hitting 86 of their 240-8 (Jake Hurley 40). Finnie (3-41) then joined Robbie Pack (3-13) in dismissing Rowledge for 144.
