Hampshire’s Joe Weatherley led from the front hitting 68 as England Under-19s battled to try and save their Youth Test against Australia in Perth. Trailing by 273 runs on first innings, England closed day three at the WACA 342-5, a slim lead of 59 with five second innings wickets intact. Having dismissed England for a disappointing 172, Australia amassed a daunting 455-7 and then gave the tourists an awkward last hour of day two at the crease. Weatherley overcame the ordeal, resuming his innings and going on to hit 11 boundaries in an accomplished 68. Hampshire team-mate Brad Taylor was England’s most successful bowler in the Australia run spree, returning a creditable 3-78 off 22 overs.
