FELIX Organ fought a brave lone battle, hitting 72 of the Hampshire Academy’s 104 before Bashley (Rydal) sealed a six-wicket win on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
The Canford teen struck a six and ten fours in a 101-ball vigil, trying his uppermost to glue the Academy innings together.
As the ball swung prodigiously in the heavy atmosphere, Organ’s ten Academy team-mates mustered a mere 26 runs between them – the initial four wickets falling to the evergreen Kevin Nash, who marked his return from a calf injury with a 4-34 return.
Organ was a helpless spectator at the non-striker’s end as the Academy’s middle-order perished – three wickets falling for one run at one stage – before Andy Neal, Jake Lilley and Sam Thomson shared two each to end the innings.
Bashley progressed to 37 (Neil Thurgood 21) before losing the first of four wickets to Chris Searle (2-19) and East Hants based left-armer Jack Campbell, who took 2-23 on debut. The Academy snapped up two superb catches before Michael Porter’s unbeaten 36 eased Bashley across the line.
