Jon Hudson is convinced Waterlooville are keep heading in the right direction following their comprehensive eight-wicket Southern Premier League Division Two win over Fair Oak at Lapstone Park.
Ville dominated the game from start to finish to chalk up a second consecutive win.
Hudson (3-18) and Ashan Silva (3-14) took three wickets apiece as the Oaks were skittled out for just 75.
After losing a couple of early wickets, South African Cole Abrahams (52 not out), from Johannesburg, made sure there were no further mishaps.
“That win came a bit out of nowhere though we have been close in most of our games,' said Hudson. “Things went our way from the start and once you get a couple of early wickets then it boosts the confidence.
“Generally as a team once we win a couple we tend to get on a good run. Hopefully this means we have turned the corner and will be able push on from here.'
Ville opening bowlers Conor Regan (2-17) and Sam Hillman set the scene, Regan removing openers Will Hughes and the prolific Rufus Bullough – the miserly Hillman conceding only ten runs off his ten overs.
That set it up for Ashan Silva, who took two wickets in his first over, and Hudson (3-18) to rip the heart out of the home innings.
Though they were only chasing a low total Hudson insisted Ville had to go about it the right way.
“It was the type of pitch where if you were batting for any length of time you would get out,” said Hudson. “We decided quite early that we would try and chase it down quickly rather than use 40 overs to see it off.
“At 15-2 there was a danger we could go the same way as Fair Oak. But Cole batted superbly and took the game away from them. He hit eight 4's and two 6's to take the game away from Fair Oak. It was very destructive but his runs came from proper cricket shots.”
