Burridge all-rounder Dan Stancliffe took a spectacular all-bowled hat-trick in a bizarre Southern Premier League East group affair at Botley Road in which 20 wickets fell for 124 runs.
Despite skittling the Academy side for 65, Burridge contrived to lose the match by six runs – being shot out for 59 themselves.
Extras top scored in both innings – 13 in each - with Academy all-rounder Dom Kelly the only player to reach the dizzy heights of double figures.
It was the lowest scoring match under the Southern League umbrella since 2008 when St Cross Symondians were bowled out for 53 and then hit back to dismiss Bournemouth for 44 at the Green Jackets.
Both sets of batsmen found their techniques tested – and mainly exposed – on a predictably damp surface of low bounce. According to one of the panel umpires, it certainly wasn’t a ‘minefield’.
Burridge’s octogenarian groundsman Gerry Candy worked from daybreak until lunchtime to get the pitch playable after the heavy rain of the preceding two days. His efforts were wholly appreciated by the wind chilled spectators who were treated to an enthralling league cup match which lasted less than 53 overs, with the result in doubt up until the end.

Stancliffe (4-21) achieved his hat-trick in quite spectacular fashion with the stumps of Tom Prest, Fletcha Middleton and George Metzer sent cartwheeling as the Academy dropped from 17-0 to 20-4 in rapid time. Sully White (1-16) got the other early wicket.
When Kelly dumped three ‘pies’ from Mo Abbas for four, the Academy’s total soared to 50, but the left-arm spinner quickly got his revenge by having him caught on the boundary.
Abbas went on to take 3-22 and Alec Damley-Jones (2-9) two more as the county colts were dismissed for 65.
Burridge were quickly 10-3 (Kelly 2-12) before a three-wicket burst by Eton College left-arm quick Finn Catherwood-Smith (4-11) left them groping at 27-6.
The Academy bowled straight, picking up five successful leg before shouts, with two more Burridge batsmen nicking behind to Metzger before collapsing to 59 all out.
