St Cross Symondians’ former Hampshire second team wicketkeeper Adam Rouse will be out for at least six weeks after under-going surgery on a serious finger injury sustained playing for Kent in this week’s drawn Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan at Cardiff’s SWALEC Stadium.
The 23-year old is in plaster cast after surgeons operated on a broken and dislocated finger, an injury initially sustained while Rouse was keeping wicket to Kent team-mate Martin Claydon.
Ironically, Rouse only played at Cardiff as a late replacement for England ODI international Sam Billings – but still emerged with a Championship best performance.
The five catches he took in Glamorgan’s first innings took his tally for the season to 34 – the highest number of wicket-keeping dismissals in the country.
He was forced to retire hurt after leading a Kent recovery from 85-5 to an eventual 279 all out.
The gutsy Basingstoke-raised keeper/batsman returned to the crease and went on to make a best-yet 65, including 13 fours.
Rouse, who has a two-year contract with Kent, was due to have played for St Cross Symondians in Saturday's scheduled Southern Premier League match at Alton, but is unlikely to play again until August.
