Hook & Newnham Basics faced a potential problem when batsman/keeper Josh Buckingham broke his thumb, but teenager Alex Brown, left, filled his boots (and gloves) in some style with an unbeaten 64 which set up a 75-run Guy Jewell Cup semi-final win over Rotherfield Park at May’s Bounty.
With Matt Love (35) and Matt Buckingham (29) chipping in, Hook posted a formidable 173-5 before bowling Rotherfield Park out for 108 (Dan Harris 43), the bowling returns of Rich Willcock (3-15), Rups Armstrong (2-5) and Rhodes Franklin (2-29) being complimented by some good out-field catching.
Hook will play the winners of Monday’s second semi-final between Basingstoke & North Hants and Old Basing in the final on bank holiday Sunday August 26.
