Stand-in skipper Alex Shephard led from the front as Waterlooville claimed a four-wicket win over local rivals Hambledon in the Southern Premier League Division 2/3 East Cup.
Shephard, who wore the captain’s armband as Sam Hillman was in quarantine following a quiet and laid back break in Spain, hit four sixes in an unbeaten 66 as the visitors passed Hambledon’s 188-9 total with four balls left of their 40 overs.
He had support from Max Goddard (22), Matt Shaw (22) and wicket-keeper Dave Connolly (20).
Earlier, Henry Glanfield continued his fine start to 2020 by top scoring with 46. The Norwegian international has now scored 193 runs in three SPL Cup ties and has only been dismissed once.
Portsmouth Grammar School’s Chris Pratt (40) helped Glanfield add 80 for the third wicket before both top scorers were dismissed by Haydn Knight (2-27). Jack Pearce made a late 23.
Archie Reynolds took 2-25 off eight tight overs, but in all Waterlooville’s bowlers conceded 24 wides. Spinner Pearce (2-25) and Glanfield (2-38) were Hambledon’s most successful bowlers.
