Dan Stancliffe, with an unbeaten and best yet 64 not out, and Southampton Solent University’s left-hand all-rounder Brighton Mugochi played the lead roles as Burridge recovered from a pre-lunch collapse before going on to beat the Hampshire Academy by 38 runs.
Burridge were rocking at 40-0 and later 78-6 after three-wicket new-ball blasts from left-armer Jack Campbell (3-30) and Chris Searle (3-37).
But Stancliffe, confident from his maiden SPL half-century against St Cross Symondians two weeks ago, smacked a six and eight fours in an undefeated 64 to give the Burridge innings some substance.
He was well supported by Portsmouth Grammar School duo Alex Willoughby (in a key 46-run stand) and later Oli Wright, whose 24 included some delightful cover drives.
They combined to lift Burridge to 199 all out – for the second week running they had fallen one run short of additional bonus points
The Academy quickly lost Ben Duggan for one – a great relief for Burridge as the left-handed Islander had take centuries off their attack in his last three innings against them.
After 13 overs, the Academy were comfortable at 47-3, but the introduction of Brighton Mugochi to the Burridge attack changed the face of the game.
After 18 overs of left arm spin, the Solent student, who mixes his deliveries well, managed to dismiss five Academy batsmen for a mere 33 runs.
The Academy went into their shells, trying to force a ‘losing draw’ and scoring 28 runs off 27 tedious overs, but Burridge’s perseverance paid off when Lee Savident removed James Tomlinson to bring the innings to a close at 151 all out.
