ALL CHANGE IN PREM 2: OTs CRASH LAND & HARTLEY GO TOP

Old Tauntonians & Romsey have lost top spot – and their unbeaten six-match Southern Premier Division 2 record – after crashing to a nine-wicket defeat by emerging Liphook & Ripsley on a Ripsley Park ‘green top’.
Hartley Wintney, 24-run winners over Paultons, go into Saturday’s round 11 programme with a minimal 0.67 point lead at the summit.
Liphook & Ripsley, with four wins in their last five matches, are now third ahead of Fair Oak, but go to Hartley Wintney this weekend.  OTs host struggling South Wilts II.
OTs captain Charlie King probably feared the worst when he called wrongly at the toss. Within minutes of the start both he and opener Elliott Mitchell-Lee had been nipped out by Charles Janczur (2-27), who quickly exploited the damp conditions, writes Mike Vimpany.
Joe Vaughan (12) feathered one behind to Harry Munt (25-3) leaving Zimbabwean Bothwell Chapungu (18) to play a relatively restrained role, something he achieved for a while, clouting three boundaries before mis-hitting Suman Ganguly to mid-on.
OTs owed much to Rob Newman (35) for keeping their innings alive at all.  While he wrestled with the demanding swing conditions for over an hour, his team-mates perished to Ganguly (3-19) and Sean Burton (3-20), who sent OTs crashing from 52-3 to 82 all out.
With conditions continuing to favour the bowlers, Vickram Dawson soon removed Harry Munt leg before, but that was to be OTs’ solitary success.
King tried seven different bowling options, but was unable to shift either Ryan Covey (34) or the influential Ganguly, whose unbeaten 36 steered Liphook to a nine-wicket victory.
With three boundaries apiece, both batsmen played with the required patience and temperament. Each maneuvering the ball around and chasing down the total without the loss of another wicket inside 22 overs.
With 292 runs, Ryan Covey is now Division 2’s leading batsman, while Sean Burton has 19 victims with the ball.
Hartley Wintney took advantage of results going in their favour to top Southern Premier Division 2, but had to repel a Tony Richman led Paultons fightback before securing victory at Whitemoor Lane.
Having posted a relatively modest 159 – Jonathon Kerr (32) and Roy Cockram (29) top scored – Hartley appeared to have matters under control as Paultons slipped to 56-5, but while Lee Wateridge (who carried his bat for 47) held firm, the big hitting Richman struck out.
He hit two sixes and five fours in a lusty 44, doubling the Paultons score to 113 before he was trapped leg before by Dan Reynaldo (3-28).
That, to Hartley Wintney’s relief, signaled the end of Paultons’ resistance with Reynaldo and Danny Nightingale (4-8) taking the last four wickets to leave the hosts 135 all out and 24 runs adrift.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Andrew Denney (3-25) and Peter Lamb (3-27) shared six of the Paultons wickets.
Anthony Alleyne was unquestionably the star of Ventnor’s victory at Lapstone Park, Fair Oak slipping to fourth place after their second defeat of the season.
The Barbadian all-rounder, who has 30 first-class and 17 List A matches under his belt, took 3 for 19 and then made an unbeaten 51 as the Islanders overtook the Fair Oak total of 118 all out with five wickets and four overs still in the tank.
After the loss of key early wickets, the normally free-flowing Fair Oak batsmen plodded along, with only skipper Charlie Gwynn (26) and Harry Reed (21) passing twenty.  Zach Wells took 3 for 22 as the home innings petered out with only three balls of the 40-over allocation unused.
Rob Snell and Mark Fletcher gave Ventnor a solid start in reply with an opening stand of 36.  Alleyne then took over, and despite Rhys Oxley’s useful spell of 3 for 26 duly took his side to victory with four overs to spare.
Fifteen wickets fell for 81 runs at Rowlands Avenue, where Waterlooville shot Fawley out for 37 before going on to win by five wickets.
Not one batsman made double figures - Fawley's meagre total being 'swelled' by ten extras and the oilmen reciprocating with 12 sundries of their own.  Sam Hillman (5-13) and Ashan Silva (4-8) took the bowling credits for the Ville, with Sufian Munir, back at last from the sub-continent, taking 3-15 for the losers.
