Andover’s gallant fight against relegation after a solitary season in the Southern Premier League’s top flight continues at Bashley (Rydal) – but they will have to do without their influential Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne.
Seemingly doomed all season, the Lions are making a real fight of it and now have New Milton within their sights, only 11 points behind.
Andover host the Green & Golds in their final match at London Road on September 2.
“Chamika is helping his brother at the World Badminton Championships in Scotland, but will be back for the New Milton game,” explained Andover skipper Matt Hooper, who is also without injured seamer Babu Veetil.
Ex-Dauntseys pair, Max Romer-Lee, who smashed a quick 50 in the second XI's win over Old Basing, and in-form Ed Duckworth also come in.
With 684-run Patrick Page having returned to South Australia, Bashley call up in-form second teamer Chris Vaughan.
Bashley (Rydal): Porter, Thomson, Digby, Jacques, Morris, Watkins, C Ridley, Van Wyk, S Ridley, Currie, Nash.
Andover: Hooper, Arnold, Ballantine-Dykes, Treagus, Carr, Knight, Romer-Lee, Blackburn, Dale, Duckworth, Adams.
Teenager prospect Fletcha Middleton rests up before his England Under-15 Schools South v North festival matches at Loughborough next week and misses the Academy’s visit to Alton. Middleton again shone in the recent Bunbury Festival.
The bulk of the Academy side flies to Belfast on Sunday to play a series of three 50-over matches and a T20 double banker against Ireland Under-19s, who have recently qualified for next February’s ICC Youth World Cup in New Zealand.
Alton: S Myers, Janmohamed, A Hammond, H Hammond, Harris, Mark Heffernan, Paul, Jamison, J Myers, Salmon, Ballinger.
Academy: Tomlinson, Kantolinna, F Organ, C Campbell, Scriven, South, Pardoe, Holly, Z Organ, Hipwell, J Campbell.
