Barbadian Anthony Alleyne brought a glimpse of the Caribbean to Bemerton with a century which carried Ventnor to a six-wicket win over South Wilts seconds.
He struck a six and 13 fours, hitting 101 as Ventnor successfully chased down South Wilts’ 176-6 with six overs to spare.
Alleyne enjoyed a 134-run partnership with the promising Mark Fletcher (43) before both players fell to the spin of Tom Pearce, who earlier top scored for South Wilts with an unbeaten 41. The Wells twins, Zach and Zeph shared four of the six SW wickets.
Waterlooville lost their last three wickets for just one run to lose a tense away fixture against Hartley Wintney by just four runs.
Replying to Hartley’s 191-9 total, Ville reached 186-7 in reply with Tim Jackson unbeaten on 90 at one end.
However, at the other end, Sam Hillman (1) was run out and Harry McBride was dismissed for a duck by Anthony Parson (3-34).
That left Ville 187-9 and a third successive Division 1 defeat was sealed when last man Chris Parker was bowled for a second ball duck by Jamie Teale (2-40).
Jackson, hitting his second highest SPL score, had arrived at the crease early after opener Archie Reynolds departed.
Sam Robinson (3-28) and Sam Hillman (3-37) had impressed as Hartley recovered from 119-5 to post 191 through Roy Cockram (60), aided by Jon Kerr (32) and Simon Carter (31).
Bashley (Rydal) remain at the foot of SPL2 after a crushing eight-wicket defeat by Liphook & Ripsley, who have climbed into fourth place behind Hartley Wintney.
Joe Randall (4-38) reduced Bashley to 27-5. A brief rally followed before Sean Burton (3-5) and Sulman Ganguly (2-15) sent the last five wickets tumbling for 12 runs. Ganguly (41) and Ran Covey (28 not out) eased Liphook past Bashley’s 77 all out in the 28th over.
