Joe Collings-Wells scored his first competitive century for four seasons to guide Burridge to a seven-wicket win over South Wilts and seriously dent the Salisbury club’s ECB Southern Premier Division ambitions in the process.
Ironically, the one-time Portsmouth Grammar School captain had made only 108 runs in his previous eight league knocks this season, but after a scratchy start he really clicked into gear at South Wilts’ expense.
Celebrating his first SPL century since scoring 127 at Alton in September 2018, Collings-Wells hit a six and 12 fours in an unbeaten 106 which swept Burridge home.
Aussie Peter Rowe, meanwhile, suffered the heartache of being run out agonizingly just short of his maiden SPL at Botley Road.
Rowe, who played First Grade cricket for the Western Australia club side Melville before emigrating to the UK two summers ago, was 96 not out going into the 50th and last over and seemingly headed for his first hundred on English soil.
But after he had driven spinner Will Donald (2-42) to deep mid-off for a comfortable single, Rowe and his non-striking partner Raff Hussey got themselves entangled in a mix up going to a second, which culminated in Rowe being run out.
The fact that South Wilts got to 203 owed much to Rowe and Ben Draper (60), who shared a fourth wicket stand of 124 after Dan Stancliffe (2-46) had whipped out openers Tom Morton and Jack Stearman, and James Hayward had fallen at 50.
South Wilts reckoned on 180 being a competitive total. How wrong they were.
Once Azim Chowdhury (36) got Burridge away to a flier, South Wilts were on a loser and though Devizes milk farmer Tom Grant took 3-40, the visitors were unable to stop Collings-Wells making 106, with Hilio De Abreu (23) lending support in a match winning stand.
