Champions St Cross Symondians moved into third spot in the ECB Southern Premier Division with a comfortable 89-run over Alton, who suffered a fourth successive defeat.
Hampshire prospect Harry Came (76) led the way as St Cross posted 275, while Canford teen Zac Organ (pictured left, aged 12) took the spin bowling plaudits with a 4-30 return.
St Cross zipped to 37 without loss off six overs when Felix fell to Otago paceman, Matt Bacon, who bowled a well directed bouncer. Billy Mead trapped leg before by spinner Jack Myers shortly afterwards.
Came, however, continued his fine form and was joined by former Clevedon ace Max Curtis (49) who began showing the class that has been widely predicted. A solid partnership was building before the former Clevedon batsman fell leg before.
Came continued onto 76 but the ever consistent Julian Ballinger had his man with ten overs to go. St Cross looked as though they might fall away but Harry Foyle (28) and Matt Haworth (24) took on the Alton attack, taking the defending champions to 275 (Hakim Peruzi 3-54).
Alton’s chase did not get off to a good start as South African pace bowler Marvin Williams struck in the first over. Matt Howarth, given the new ball after back-to-back impressive performances, struggled to gain any consistency but it was not long before Williams took out Alton’s captain, Dan Harris, and the Brewers stumbled towards drinks at 80-2 (Scott Myers 31).
The introduction of spin duo and Felix Organ brought immediate reward, but the county duo were over-shadowed the younger Organ (Zac), who came on to blow Alton away with a 4-30 return – much to the admiration of his elder brother !
Alton closed 186-9 through some late resilience from Julian Ballinger (25 no), St Cross taking home 21 points.
