Alton teenager Abhay Gonella carried off the MVP award as his adopted Sydney club Campbelltown-Cadnam snatched a dramatic win over University of New South Wales in the NSW Premiers Second Grade this weekend.
The 18-year old produced a key all-round performance, taking 4-31 off 16 overs as UNSW were dismissed for 227 by stumps on day one.
Gonella [pictured] then underpinned a nervous Campbelltown run chase, opening the batting and scoring a patient 60 which included only three boundaries.
But his knock proved critical as CC grabbed victory courtesy of an unbroken tenth-wicket stand.
Andover's Alex Ayers, meanwhile, had to be satisfied with his four victims behind the stumps on day one of Parramatta's 89-run defeat by Sydney. Ayers was unable to add to his overnight score of three as his side was dismissed for 159.
