Andover teenage Sam Ashman cracked a career-best 166 not out as the Hampshire Pathways posted 345-6 declared by stumps on the opening day of their ECB Under-18 County Championship match against Middlesex at Winchester College.
He struck 26 fours, sharing a second-wicket stand of 126 with Lymington's Kamran Dharawal, who plundered four sixes and seven fours in his 71.
Finn Gordon (26), Andrew MacEwen (26) and fit-again Louis Prichard (23*) shared subsequent partnerships with Ashman, who scored his maiden Southern Premier League fifty for the Academy against South Wilts last weekend.
Wednesday's play was washed out without a ball being bowled but, after a remarkable mopping up operation by the Winchester College groundstaff, play began on time on Thursday - much to the dismay of Middlesex, who plunged from 62-2 to 89 all out, with Louis Prichard taking 4-26 and Francis Moore 3-6.
Hampshire went on to take 16 Middlesex wickets in the day, the city side reaching 149-6 after rain dogged the final session.
