BAKER USES LOAF TO MAKE MAIDEN 70 IN ROWLEDGE RUN FEST

Teenage spin all-rounder Ollie Baker has put his name firmly in the frame to be named Rowledge’s Player of the Year.
He celebrated his maiden SPL half-century and, in scoring 70 in the thumping 265-run win over relegated Ventnor, took his tally beyond the 300-mark in league matches.  He has also taken 23 wickets with his left-arm spin.
Ironically, Rowledge lost Ricky Yates and Aussie Fraser Wilson (suffering a Headingley hangover) for ducks to George Willis (3-62) before the Church Road hosts embarked on a 312-run fest against their ten-man island visitors.
Sam Plater (59) and Baker (70) each struck ten fours during their 115-run stand, which Salesian College head boy designate Jonty Sebborn (25) later enhanced.
But the real fireworks were provided by Joe Randall, who blazed two sixes and nine fours in a 44-ball 68 not out.
The season’s end can’t come quick enough for Ben Woodhouse and his beleaguered Ventnor troops, who should be commended for completing their fixtures in such trying circumstances.  Yates and Randall shared six of the wickets as Ventnor fell to 47 all out.
