A raft of British Gas Southern Premier League clubs are without their aspiring county players for Saturday’s sixth round of matches.
Brad Taylor, who made 131 before taking 7-38 for Havant against Andover last week, is among six SPL regulars playing in Hampshire’s four-day friendly against South Africa A at the Ageas Bowl.
Lymington, away at Andover, must do without Calvin Dickinson, while Asher Hart (St Cross Symondians) misses Alton’s visit to the Green Jackets Ground, and Australian Ian Holland is once again away from South Wilts, where he has played only once so far.
Chris Wood (OTs & Romsey) and Portsmouth’s Fraser Hay are also involved in the county game, but the Australian all-rounder will be released from 12th man duties to play against Rowledge.
Leaders Bashley (Rydal), who face New Milton in an eagerly awaited New Forest derby, are unaffected, but they will have newly signed Middlesex left-arm speedster Tom Barber firing with the new ball.
They take a nine-point lead to Fernhill, which is barely a half-mile away from their own BCG headquarters.
The experienced Kevin Nash returns – teenager Brad Currie is in the middle of his A-levels - still chasing that elusive 400th SPL wicket, while Tom Jacques is restored to the middle order.
New Milton: R Beck, L Beck, Loader, Hussey, Edwards, Gargaro, Wakefield, Haggaty, Watts, Arnold, Shrubsole.
Bashley (Rydal): Gates, Digby, Page, Porter, Jacques, Vaughan, C. Ridley, Watkins, S. Ridley, Barber, Nash
South Wilts are hoping left-hand opener Eddie Abel is fit to play against Burridge at Bemerton after dislocating a little finger in the victory over the Academy a fortnight ago.
The former champions need an in-form Abel (who is set to replace Tom Cowley) to boost their top order batting which is struggling for runs.
“Only Will Wade and Cowley have made fifties in the opening five weeks,” he said.
“We’ve had plenty of 20s and 30s, but no one’s really pushing on and making an individual contribution which will enable us to post a big score.”
South Wilts: Hibberd, Wade, Abel, Hayward, Cranch, Draper, R Pittman, Evans, Murray, Warner, S Pittman.
Hampshire Academy coach James Tomlinson reckons tomorrow will be the worst of the season in terms of player availability.
“It’s peak time for A-levels and GCSE’s, plus there’s a welter of schools cricket taking place this weekend, all of which have depleted our numbers,” he said.
Havant are boosted by Chris Morgan’s return, while Chris Stone is recalled after scoring a century in a recent second team match.
Havant: Walker, Ransley, Hopson, Gorvin, Stone, Burns, Jerry, Bulled, Hindley, McCoy, Morgan.
Andover opener Ali Hooper is undergoing surgery on a ruptured bicep, so misses Lymington’s visit to London Road, as does Army left-hander Storm Green.
But Glynn Treagus is back and Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunatatne makes his home debut after an explosive six-strewn first appearance at Havant, where he smacked eight maximums in a blistering 80.
Key spin all-rounder Richard Lock joins Dickinson on the Lymington absentee list.
Andover: Hooper, Treagus, Karunatatne, Watson, Govander, Knight, Blackburn, Souter, Foy, Adams, Veetil.
Lymington: Beetham, Lake Scott, Ellis, Hand, Rogers, Metcalfe, Robertson, Layman, Freeman, Woodward.
Alton are forced to ring the changes with four players unavailable from last week’s victory over New Milton for the trip to St Cross Symondians’ Green Jackets Ground.
The absence of spin pair Julian Ballinger and Jack Myers provides the opening for second team slow bowler Lee Partner to make his debut.
But opening swing bowler Ben Mortimer is back and will partner South African Sean Jamison.
Alton: Janmohamed, Hammond, Harris, Myers, Heffernan, Heffernan, Postles, Mortimer, Jamison, Salmon, Partner
