After suffering back-to-back defeats by Alton and now New Milton, Village Cup semi-finalists Calmore Sports have slipped to third place in Southern Premier Division 1, 25 points behind leaders Sarisbury Athletic, whom they host at Loperwood Park on Saturday, 1300.
They lost by 18 runs at totally unpredictable New Milton, where the Green & Golds looked down and out after new ball spells by Ben Fisher (3-22) and Steve Wright (2-20) reduced them to 39-5.
Cue an 82-run partnership between Lee Beck (43) and Ed Bartlett (53) which pointed New Milton to 129-6, after which George Watts (24*) and Dan Loader (31*) frustrated Calmore even more.
Loader then bagged 3-27 as Calmore also began badly, sagging to 71-5 before wicketkeeper Max Bailey (left below) hit 65, Ben Fisher (right below) 36 and Mark Lavelle 31 before the visitors conceded defeat at 183 all out.

Jack Marston and Minhaj Jalill both struck unbeaten half-centuries as Portsmouth handed rock bottom Liphook & Ripsley, last year’s Division 2 winners, another defeat.
Both batters ended on 67 not out as the visitors eased to their victory target by eight wickets after Liphook had posted 214-9 off their 45 overs.
Marston had 10 boundaries in his 84-ball stay at the crease, but Jalill compiled his runs off half that number - hitting 10 fours and two sixes in his 42-ball knock.
Skipper Ben Duggan (54) had helped Marston add 93 for the third wicket as inconsistent Portsmouth claimed their sixth win in 11 Division 1 matches.
Opener Ryan Covey (73) and Richard Covey (43) had helped Liphook reach 104-1. But Reuben McArdle (3-32), Rakshith Rao (2-36) and Ashan Silva (2-37) hauled Portsmouth back into the contest at Ripsley Park.
