Bashley (Rydal) will have the Currie brothers, Brad and Scott, sharing the new ball duties in what amounts to be a key Southern Premier League West group meeting with Totton & Eling at Southern Gardens, 12.30.
It will be the first time they have bowled together since their Dorset age group cricket days and in tandem – Brad with his left-arm seam and swing and Scott with his pace from a high trajectory – they possess a real threat.
The pair have played little competitive cricket so far this truncated season, although Brad has been in Edinburgh this week having trials with Scotland, while sibling brother Scott played in Hampshire’s recent two-day warm-up match against Sussex and Hove and turned out for the Academy against Somerset U19s in a t20 double banker in midweek.
It will be the first time a pair of brothers has opened the bowling in ‘premier’ Southern League cricket since 2014 when Darron and Dylan Augustus played, ironically, for Totton & Eling and each took five wickets in a rain abandoned match against the Academy.
Will and Tom Allam have, of course, shared the new ball for Tichborne Park on numerous occasions, while the jury is out on whether Roger or Mark Miller, now both retired, opened up for either Andover or OTs in the past. They probably did.
Bashley have experienced a stuttering start to their league cup campaign, losing a last ball thriller to Andover before their visit to St Cross Symondians was washed out. They were without a game last weekend.
Totton thrashed New Milton first up – the returning Harrison Clarke smashed 126 in that win – and, after a cancellation at Bournemouth, tied a thriller with St Cross Symondians last week.
Totton & Eling: H Clarke, J Taylor, O Morris, E Taylor, O Thomas, B Lightfoot, L Taylor, H Peruzi, T Cheater, J Owens, S Bracey.
Bashley (Rydal): Turner, Taylor, Walker, Porter, Fisher, S. Currie, Jacques, Digby, M Wilson, B. Currie, Clutterbuck.
Hampshire prospect Harry Came returns to the St Cross Symondians fold against Calmore Sports at the Green Jackets, having played (and made 25 in the first innings) in the county’s disappointing Bob Willis Trophy defeat by Sussex.
James Manning returns to bolster Calmore’s batting and bowling options. St Cross Symondians (38) are one point ahead of Totton & Eling (37) after three rounds of matches.
St Cross Symondians: T Foyle, Came, Trussler, Stokes, H Foyle, Harden, Kelly, Bransgrove, Nicholls, Brooke, Woolvine.
Calmore Sports: Lavelle, Cook, Brewster, Johns, Moss, Manning, Fisher, Perry, Taylor, Bailey, Lepervanche.
Andover produced a disappointing batting display in losing to Lymington last week, but the return of Ali Hooper and Glyn Treagus should enhance their prospects at New Milton, who have lost twice.
Andover: A. Hooper, Treagus, A Ayers, Carr, C Ayers, Knight, Birks, M Hooper, Taylor, Adams, Jansen.
The other West Group match features Bournemouth against South Wilts, who travel to Chapel Gate minus Arthur Godsal and will Jack Mynott likely to open the batting alongside teenage left-hander Jack Stearman.
South Wilts: Mynott, Stearman, E Wade, Hayward, Draper, Hussey, Grant, Harries, Warner, J Wade, Burton.
