Fawley's first win since beating Paultons in early June and only their second of the season, significantly against fellow strugglers Bashley (Rydal) II, has put the cat amongst the proverbial pigeons at the foot of Southern Premier Division 2.
Their five-wicket win at Holbury has narrowed the gap between Fawley (82) and Bashley (92) to ten points, with Paultons, in desperate need of some success, two wins from safety.
Bashley's lack of batting power throughout the top deck at the BCG came home to roost against, with only Sam Kennett (37) and Saif Achakanzi (28 not out) making any sort of impression as the side was bowled out for 115. They found the promising Wayne Smith (4-12) and latterly Sufian Munir (3-29) all too much.
Bashley did manage to take five Fawley wickets, but not Kieron Earl, who opened and held things together with 38 not out.
* The teams will meet again at the BCG on Friday week (July 30) in the New Forest CCA President's Cup final.
