Bashley (Rydal) are facing a wicket-keeping and opening bowler dilemma in the days leading up to Saturday's eagerly anticipated visit to ECB Southern Premier League champions, Havant.
First choice gloveman Chris Ridley has been ruled out for the foreseeable future with on-going knee problems, which began when he trained for the London Marathon two years ago.
Hampshire's Lewis McManus stepped into the breach against Lymington last weekend, but will be otherwise engaged in the Royal London 50-over cup final against Kent at Lord's.
Skipper Michael Porter, who has been known to keep wicket in the past, is keeping his options open, with a call-up for teenage seconds keeper Patrick Lewis a possibility. Bashley are also believed to be in the market for a locally based West of England Premier League gloveman, but Porter is only too aware the transfer window closes on July 1 and will have to move quickly if he is to secure the player's signature.
Porter's other problem lies 22 yards away with a question mark over the fitness of teenage left-arm pace bowler Bradley Currie, who spent two days in hospital after the drawn Lymington match recovering from a stomach aliment. The 19-year old was discharged earlier this week, but needs to recover his body strength to be fit to play, particularly in the current extreme temperatures.
Bashley (Rydal) lie third in the table six points behind Havant.
