Defending their own modest 147, Bashley (Rydal) fancied they had the game in the bag when Wokingham sank to 64-7 – but the visiting Home Counties Premier League side recovered to win by three wickets.
Anthony Clapham (54) and Joe Clark (29) turned the match on its head with an unbroken eighth-wicket partnership.
Bashley looked as though they might post a competitive total while Digby (41) and Michael Porter (32) were together, but the captain’s dismissal at 69-2 triggered a mini-collapse which saw three wickets fall for one run – and Jacob Gordon and Tom Jacques run out in quick succession.
The obdurate Digby was eventually seventh out at 115, having struck one sizzling boundary in a knock which held the Bash innings together. Mitch Wilson hastened the pace with two maximums and four boundaries in his 34, one-time Hampshire U17 all-rounder Andy Rishton finishing with 3-20.
Bashley’s four-pronged pace attack worked their way through Wokingham’s top order – Ben Fletcher and Wilson each taking a brace of wickets - but were unable to shift their eventual match winners.
Sean Read celebrated a winning start to his spell as Bashley IIs captain with a five-wicket victory over Wokingham seconds, whose 178-6 was overhauled with five overs to spare.
Teenage duo Will Tripcony, with an unbeaten 75, and leg spinner Ethan Baker, with four wickets, played influential roles in Bashley’s success, one they’’ll look to repeat at Totton & Eling on Saturday.
