Bashley (Rydal) are ECB Southern Premier Division Time pennant winners for the second time in three seasons.
They secured the ‘flag’ with a 60-victory win over St Cross Symondians – their seventh win in eight all-day outings and a result which leaves the defending league champions 44 points adrift at the top.
The margin of victory would have been far more substantial but for a 63-run last wicket stand, which lifted the St Cross total from 97-9 and frustrated Bashley for best part of an hour.
Bashley, though, had to work hard for their runs, particularly during the morning session at the Green Jackets when Simon Beetham (2-33) and Marvin Williams bowled tight lines.
Alex Turner (36) grafted hard as did Ben Walker (22) earlier, but Bashley skipper Michael Porter grasped the initiative in stands of 77 with the teenage twin and 65 with Tom Friend.
Porter made 76 and Friend a run-a-ball 39 before holing out in the deep attempting a third six.
Friend’s dismissal triggered a clatter of wickets as Channel Islander Matt Stokes bagged 6-59 – Bashley collapsing from 187-3 to 218 all out, seven wickets falling for 31 runs.
St Cross Symondians promptly followed suit, their powerful batting line up disintegrating against Brad Currie (2-48), George Pardoe (2-14) and George Wilson (2-28), Tom Jacques initially bagging three catches behind the stumps.
Mitch Wilson’s 4-33 return included Ed Ellis (25) but St Cross were on their knees at 97-9 before Beetham (39) and last man Marvin Williams (23 not out) added that face saving 63 to lift the final total to 158.
