Bashley (Rydal) are on the brink of a historic treble title triumph.
Already confirmed as ECB Southern Premier League and Division 3 winners, they could also be parading the Hampshire League County Division 3 (South) trophy around the streets (okay, country lanes) of the New Forest village if their third team wins its final match at relegation threatened Hythe & Dibden on Saturday.
They go to Jones Lane with a 16-point advantage over second placed Shanklin, who host demoted Ventnor at Westhill.
While Bashley’s first team was being crowned Premier Division champions at Bournemouth, Patrick Lewis’s side clinched the SPL3 crown with a 60-run victory over Purbrook.
A century by Arno Hattingh (112) and a blistering 82 by Sam Stroud, who according to local folklore “isn’t on the field to make friends”, pointed Bashley to a formidable 261-7.
Purbrook, whose final home match against Portsmouth & Southsea on Saturday (1230) will be key to the outcome of the relegation scrap, came back with 201, half of which skipper Josh McCoy (101) made before Stroud weighed in with 5-27.
