Bashley (Rydal) found themselves caught on Havant’s notoriously spin-friendly surface, bowled out for 106 and soundly beaten by six wickets by the defending ECB British Gas Southern Premier League champions.
Josh Digby and previously free-scoring South Australian Patrick page perished to the seamers, but after that Havant’s four-pronged spin attack ruled the roost.
Only make-shift opener Sam Thomson survived as Bashley crashed to 61-7 by lunch – left-arm spinner Chris Morgan, left, (4-24) getting lift and considerable turn.
Thomson batted all bar one run of the Bashley innings and was ninth man to depart for 56 after a gutsy 155-ball stay at the crease.
His 44-run partnership with Simon Watkins (14) at least took Bashley’s score into treble figures.
Havant didn’t make the best of starts and were quickly 30-3, but Bashley’s own spinners were not as potent as their hosts.
Chris Stone, with a match winning 54 not out, and Richard Hindley (18) rode out the storm and guided the champions to a six-wicket win.
