Bashley (Rydal) left-arm seamer Ben Fletcher [pictured] had a National Counties Championship debut to remember for Dorset in the rain-affected draw against Cheshire at Oxton.
Fletcher, who has captured 12 wickets for Bashley first team this season having joined the club from Ferndown Wayfarers in 2020, took seven for 28 to dismiss Cheshire for 187 in their first innings which spanned three days. Cheshire lost their last nine wickets for 54 in 25 overs, Bournemouth’s Robbie Pack taking 2-46.
Previously, Bournemouth’s Luke Webb made 82 and St Cross Symondians’ skipper Ed Ellis 71 in Dorset’s 325-8, Simon Woodruff hitting 32 not out and Academy all-rounder James Trodd 29. Dorset (132-4) extended their lead to 270 before the game petered out into a draw.
Reflecting on Fletcher's bowling this summer, Bashley skipper Michael Porter said: "Ben's been a shining light for us, having put on a yard of pace. He's been unlucky not to take more wickets than he actually has, but he's got a great future with us."
Teenage South Wilts left-hander Jack Stearman (35) top scored as Wiltshire were bowled out for 179 (Arthur Godsal 25) before champions Berkshire posted 347-5 to lead by 168 on the first innings. Wiltshire forced a draw at 146-5 second time around.
