Influential Bashley (Rydal) all-rounder Mitch Wilson has been ruled out of the Southern League Cup Premier/1 West visit to Calmore Sports after breaking his nose in a midweek training session.
He suffered his injury in the BCG nets and has been advised to rest, which (with teenager Sam Crisp unavailable) means a first team debut for newcomer Ben Fletcher.
“It’s a great shame for Mitch has he’s been having a great year – he took four wickets at Totton & Eling last time out – but I’ve been seriously impressed with Ben, who is tall, fast and can swing the ball,” said Bashley skipper Michael Porter.
Bashley expect to have Brad and Scott Currie sharing the new ball at Loperwood Park, where Hampshire media man Will Brewster will be in the firing line.
James Hibberd is running a Safe Hands course, so misses the match, but James Rose comes in.
Calmore Sports: Brewster, Johns, Bailey, Manning, Fisher, Rose, Taylor, Woodhall, Lavelle, Perry, Lepervanche.
Bashley (Rydal): Turner, Jacques, Walker, Porter, Fisher, S. Currie, Holly, Digby, Clutterbuck, B. Currie, Fletcher.
South Wilts are in action barely a mile away at Southern Gardens, where hosts and tie specialists Totton & Eling are minus James Taylor, but have Sam Bracey back wearing the captain’s armband.
Totton have tied twice in the League Cup, with Zimbabwean Brigh Mugochi scoring a century against Calmore last week.
Totton & Eling: S Bracey, Thomas, Peruzi, Beer, Morris, Owens, Lightfoot, Clarke, Cheater, Graves, Mugochi.
South Wilts: Mynott, Stearman, Rowe, Hayward, Draper, Hussey, Godsal, Grant, Warner, Wade, Burton.
St Cross Symondians host Andover at the Green Jackets, while ancient rivalries will be renewed at Fernhill, where New Milton entertain old foes Lymington.
Old timer Tony Wharton will be giving an illustrated talk on New Milton’s 1974 Hampshire League title winning season and recalling derby days of old – all of which will doubtless sail over the heads of the 22 on-field participants.
New Milton: Watts, Edwards, Golding, Shrubsole, R Beck, L Beck, Loader, Hall, Humphrey, Mortimore, Gargaro.
Lymington: Royan, Scott, Hand, Schreuder, Smith, D Bailey, J Bailey, Freeman, Tollerfield, Robertson, Ingles.
