Basingstoke & North Hants chairman Andy Giles, pictured above, ruled the crease, celebrating his Hampshire Seniors’ debut with an unbeaten century in the 30-run ECB 50-plus County Championship victory over Cornwall at Pencarrow.
Giles carried his bat for 111, hitting one six and ten fours, sharing a healthy partnership with Chris Wheeler (47) as Hampshire posted 231-6.
The chairman’s hundred came at cost as he pulled up lame and had to field at slip during Cornwall’s 201 all out, but he did take a stunning catch.
May’s Bounty team-mates Matt Thankachan (3-27), Keith Harris (2-37) and Keith Harsham helped Hampshire to a victory they must repeat when the Channel Islands visit Hook & Newnham Basics’ KGV ground on Monday, 1pm.
