Chris Oliver (51) and Steve Bucksey (39) were prominent in the initial stages, but Basingstoke lost four wickets for ten runs dropping to 122-5.
Scott Dyer (60) and Chris Jolley (32) rallied before Keith Harsham’s 34 not out got the final total to 251.
Fawley began well through New Zealander Matt Brown (58) and James Nason (23), but spinner Ash Neal removed both batsmen to put the game back in the balance.
Teenager Bailey Parratt (23) and Rob Leach (63 not out) moved the home side to 186, before Parratt was caught by Jolley, which gave left-arm spinner Matt Deadman (2-26) his first of two wickets.
Leach continued to threaten to win the game, but some tight bowling in the closing overs saw Fawley come up short of their target at 244-8.
Basingstoke’s six-point lead at the top will come under close scrutiny at Waterlooville, who lost early wickets before chasing down Hursley Park’s 202-8 at The Quarters.

Promoted Alton II looked to be headed back to the Hampshire League after a crushing 143-run defeat by Purbrook, whose 273-8 included significant contributions by Martin Lee (76), James Holder (62) and Jon Moller (46). Only Ben Hubbard (54) made his mark in lton’s 130 all out.
