Basingstoke & North Hants seconds have opened up a handy 15 point lead at the top of British Gas Southern League Division 3.
Their 29-run win over Gosport Borough at May’s Bounty coincided with Bashley (Rydal) losing ground – they lost to Havant II – and Waterlooville nipping into second spot.
Half-centuries by Scott Dyer (63) and left-hand teenager Matt Deadman (52), pictured, underpinned Basingstoke’s 244 (Callum Coombs 33) against Gosport.
Young Jacob Harris (4-34) enhanced his Hampshire junior prospects as Basingstoke, having reached 226-4, lost their last six wickets for 18 and were dismissed three overs from their end of their allocation.
Gosport got away to a flier when Tom Larner smashed 11 fours in a blistering 50, but after his dismissal Greg Kitchen was left to carry the fight on his own.
Kitchen was last man out for 72 as Gosport replied with 215, Harry Smith taking 3-33 and Chris Jolley 3-49.
Former Hampshire cricket scholar Josh McCoy played the lead role in Havant’s two-wicket win over promotion chasing Bashley (Rydal) II at the BCG.
He took 4-46 and later hit 96 as Havant chased down 232-9 to win with five balls to spare.
Tom Gates (69), Neil Thurgood (55) and Patrick Lewis (31) led Bashley to 232-9, but a 143-run second wicket stand between McCoy and Pete Hopson (50) put Havant in command.
McCoy hit a six and 16 fours, his 96 taking only 68 balls, but Havant lost wickets after his dismissal.
Tim Clark’s 28 not out, aided by Graham Burns (21) in a crucial seventh-wicket stand, got Havant across the line.
Bashey’s defeat allowed Waterlooville to leapfrog into second spot after a comfortable 56-run win over local rivals Purbrook. Tim Jackson (47) and Tasmanian James Hortle (44) took Ville to 218, while Jon Hudson added to his handy 32 with a 3-30 return as Purbrook tumbled to 162 all out, Sean Figgins 54.
