Brad Porteous to miss Guy Jewell T20 Cup final.
Basingstoke & North Hants will be without South African all-rounder Brad Porteous when they face Hartley Wintney in Sunday’s Finch Group Guy Jewell T20 Cup final at May’s Bounty, 2pm.
Porteous took 24 wickets in addition to scoring 291 Southern Premier League runs this season has returned to his native South Africa to join the KZ Natal provincial squad for pre-season training.
But Bounty-raised Academy teenage wicketkeeper/batsman George Metzger is set to play after returning from the ECB Under-17 Super 4s tournament at Loughborough.
With the weather set fair and admission free, Basingstoke anticipate a bumper crowd for a T20 finals day double, which begins at 10am, with Oakley taking on Hook & Newnham Basics B for the Cyril Thompson Shield.
Basingstoke, who leaked 318-4 against Havant yesterday, have finished last in the Premier Division and will be relegated if Hook & Newnham’s King George V Ground is accredited.
Having won their last four games, Hartley Wintney are chasing a top three Division 2 finish and will be at full strength.
Hartley Wintney: Will Kerr, Harry Broderick, Hugo Hammond, Scott Baldwin, Jason Knibbs, Roy Cockram, Jamie Teale, Jonny Kerr, Will Ross, Anthony Parson, Dan Reynaldo.
Basingstoke skipper David Griffiths said: “After the season we have had it would be nice to win a trophy and we really played well (against cup holders Hook & Newnham Basics) in the semi-final. I hope we can repeat this.”
On Monday, Basingstoke U19 T20 Warriors are in action against Sway/Lymington in the Hampshire Vitality T20 finals day at May’s Bounty.
