The islanders’ surprise three-wicket win over second placed Basingstoke strengthened Calmore’s hand at the top.
The top two face off at Loperwood Park this Saturday.
The leaders won by six wickets at Hook & Newnham Basics, who rallied from 117-7 to post 198-8, with Anitek Divecha (39) and Rhodes Franklin (26) sharing an unbroken ninth-wicket partnership.
Calmore wobbled at 47-2, but Ben Johns (46), James Manning (49) and Australian Jack Rutter, pictured left, with a match winning 61, eased them home.
Ventnor pulled off an eye catching three-wicket win over Basingstoke & North Hants at Newclose – a result which puts the Bountymen under pressure and with points to make up this weekend.
Basingstoke recovered from 74-4 with David Griffiths (52) and Brad Neal (43) mounting a middle-order recovery – but the last six wickets fell for 18 runs, with Adam Wilson (4-29) and South African Schaughan Van Gruenan (3-23) doing the damage.
Duggan (40) prospered in an 81-run start which James Cheek (68) improved but, like Basingstoke, Ventnor also collapsed and lost seven wickets (three of them to Matt Thankachan 3-46) before Van Gruenan’s unbeaten half-century got them home.
