Dean Nurse hit an unbeaten 83 to lift Basingstoke & North Hants out of the mire and set up an unlikely 14-run win over Royal Wootton Bassett in the ECB National Club Championship at May's Bounty.
His side were in serious trouble at 61-6 against the Wiltshire-based WEPL club when Nurse arrived at the crease to form a match changing 44-run stand with Matt Donaldson (23) and lift the score to 105.
Nurse hit three sixes and six boundaries in his highest Basingstoke score for ten years.
Teenage duo Alex Bovill (18) and Dubs Wood (17) made smaller contributions up the order, while Ali Brown's 18 late on - he helped Nurse add an unbroken 42 for the ninth wicket - provided Basingstoke with a competitive 188-8.
Even so, Wootton Bassett looked firm favourites to win with their reply at 112-1, but an astonishing collapse saw them lose nine wickets for 62 runs and the side crumble to 174 all out.
Brown, Donaldson and Joe Oates took two wickets each for Basingstoke, who travel to Bath in the next round.
