Longparish teen Billy Mead, pictured, struck a maiden county age group century when he hit 110 against Worcestershire at Kidderminster to get Hampshire’s Royal London Under-17 Cup campaign off to a winning start.
The Marlborough College student cracked a six and 13 fours in his century and shared a match-winning 156-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Felix Organ, whose 92 included four maximums and 11 boundaries. Hampshire made 328.
Bowling spin, Organ later took 3-27 and with Tom Scriven (3-45) helped restrict Worcester to 243-9.
Hampshire host Gloucestershire in their next U17 Cup match at Basingstoke & North Hants’ Mays Bounty on Sunday, 11am. They were beaten U17 Cup semi-finalists last year, but went on to lift the County Championship age group title.
