Longparish teenager Billy Mead etched his name in Marlborough College cricket history with an undefeated double-century in the 193-run victory over Sherborne.
The 18-year old, who captains Marlborough, hit 214 not out – a record breaking innings which included 18 sixes and 12 fours off 112 balls – as his side amassed a colossal 401-3 before dismissing Sherborne for 208.
“It was a privilege to be there to witness one of the great school boy innings,” said former Leicestershire & England left-arm spinner Nick Cook, who umpired the match.
It was Mead’s second century in quick succession – the 18-year old scoring an unbeaten 126 in Marlborough’s seven-wicket win over the MCC three days earlier.
A public schools rackets champion, Mead was a member of the Hampshire side which won the ECB Under-17 County Championships in 2015. He has not been included in the Hampshire Academy squad this summer, but instead plans to take his rich vein of form into his ECB British Gas Southern Premier League ‘white ball’ debut for St Cross Symondians against Andover at London Road on Saturday, 1pm.
