Billy Lightfoot may have written himself into the Southern Premier League annals by becoming the youngest cricketer ever to take five wickets in a match.
At 14 years of age, Lighfoot (left) – whose father Simon played for Old Tauntonians and Southampton Touring Club – took 5-33 to spin Totton & Eling to a crucial 59-run victory over relegation rivals Tichborne Park.
The win provided Totton (whose average age was 19 years) with an eight-point breathing space above Tichborne, who are in the two-down drop zone with Trojans.
Middle-order pair Gary Chirmuuta (70) and Owen Morris (55) paved the way to Totton posting a handy 243, brothers Will (4-42) and Tom Allam (3-48) taking a lion’s share of the wickets.
Tichborne lost Martin Cheyney early, but were in the game at 143-3 with Queenslander Ryan Brooks (51) and Will Allam (29) were together.
But when young Lightfoot had Brooks caught behind and Allam feel soon after to Kieran Geyle (2-25), Tichborne fell apart.
The last seven wickets fell for 41 runs, with Lighfoot bagging five of them to finish with match winning figures of 5-33.
