Longparish teenager Billy Mead is set to fulfil every schoolboy’s dream by playing on the hallowed turf of Lord’s on Saturday.
The stylish top order batsman captains Marlborough College in a special 50-over match as part of Rugby School’s 450th celebrations – the historic fixture having been first played in 1855, but not since 1972 at Lord’s.
Mead, 18, who has been playing Southern Premier League for St Cross Symondians this season, has enjoyed a successful final term at Marlborough, hitting a double century against Sherborne and a hundred off the MCC in consecutive matches.
