Sixth-wicket pair Dan Birch and Alex Shephard rescued Waterloovile with an unbroken 128-run partnership, which turned a likely defeat into a Southern Premier Division 2 victory over St Cross Symondians II at the Green Jackets Ground.
Asked to chase a St Cross total of 214-7, Waterlooville weren’t in the best shape at 87-5 (Archie Reynolds 37) – but then the tables turned.
Birch (pictured) hit an unbeaten 68 and Shephard 55 not out as the Ville got home with nine balls to spare.
Earlier, former Hampshire opener Jason Laney (77) underpinned the St Cross innings, sharing a useful stand with Michael Haworth (44) before the innings tailed away from 161-2 to 214-7.

The last time Fawley were at the BUG they carried off the New Forest CA Presidents Cup. Sufian Munir (70) took them to 123-3, but then five wickets fell for 11 runs.  Stroud and James Edmunds took three wickets each before last man Wayne Smith (34) showed off his hidden talents with the bat. Fawley were 188 all out and beaten by 66 runs.
