Two promising teenage cricketers who helped Dorset reach last season’s ECB County Under-17 final have linked up with a reinvigorated Bournemouth, who have started preparations for the 2016 season with a mounting sense of optimism.
They are batsman Jamie Price, who made his full Minor Counties Championship debut for Dorset last term, and Millfield left-arm spinner Dom Clutterbuck, who made a number of late season appearances for the Hampshire Academy in 2015. The pair have both joined from Parley.
Bournemouth report an impressive turn out for the first indoor session of the winter, which saw new Director of Cricket and Dorset captain Chris Park put a host of prospective new players through their paces. To underwrite their adult strength, Bournemouth have been working tirelessly to improve their already burgeoning youth section. A new Academy system has been introduced to provide expert and intense coaching for the most talented and committed players. The club is looking to improve and expand this academy by appointing a high profile Academy Head Coach and will shortly be holding trials for prospective players.
Bournemouth work closely with the cricketing charity Chance to Shine to provide cricket opportunities to those children who might not otherwise have the chance to play the game. As part of this initiative the Club is currently fund raising to provide Academy scholarships for some of those children who would not otherwise be able to afford specialised coaching. The first of these initiatives is a Golf Day at the Dudsbury Golf Club on Friday 8 April.
