Bashley (Rydal) left-arm pace bowler Bradley Currie has been named Southern Premier League 'Young Cricketer of the Year' after his 42 wicket haul helped the all-conquering New Forest club lift the ECB Premier Division title for the first time.
The 21-year old, who took 98 wickets in all senior cricket this summer, captured almost half his wickets in June, achieving a 6-14 haul at then leaders Lymington and 6-18 against Bournemouth two weeks later. He is the 39th winner of the John Millett Memorial Trophy.
Currie, pictured in action at Lymington by Terry Nash, said: "I'm just happy all the hard work from last winter paid off and getting the Young Cricketer award is a reward for all the hard yards I put in during the close season.
He regularly opened the bowling in Minor Counties Championship cricket for Dorset, who have earned a place in the top level of the new look National Counties CA Championship in 2020.
To cap a fine month for the Currie family, sibling brother Scott (who is on Hampshire's books) has been picked for England's Under-19 trip to the West Indies next month.
