England Under-19s slipped to a second consecutive Tri-Series defeat against Sir Lanka in Colombo, despite a battling performance by their captain, Hampshire spin prospect Brad Taylor.
Taylor returned his best international figures of 4-34 as Sri Lanka collapsed from a threatening 110-2 to 191 all out – Hampshire team-mate Mason Crane taking 2-38 with his leg spin.
Seemingly well placed at 64-1, England also collapsed – six wickets falling for 30 runs at the R Premedasa Stadium – before Taylor (18) and Kent’s Ryan Davies (28) put the visitors back in contention.
They added a spirited 43 for the eighth wicket before Taylor was caught.
England’s last two wickets fell quickly leaving the side 139 all out and Sri Lanka winners by 52 runs.
England, who have been paired against Fiji, the West Indies and Zimbabwe in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, face undefeated India in their third 50-over match in Colombo on Tuesday.
